Image description: A bald eagle sits on a tree along the bank of Quake Lake. The topless trees of the lake once lined the banks of the Madison River and have sat underwater for more than 50 years after a 7.5-magnitude earthquake on August 17, 1959 triggered a massive landslide burying campers and the riverbed of the Madison below. Quake Lake was formed and is now a popular fishing destination in the Yellowstone area. Local fishing lore touts that a state record brown trout could be hiding in the difficult-to-navigate waters of the lake.
